IPA
The International Photography Awards aim to ‘discover new and emerging talent, and promote the appreciation of photography’. The organisation awards winners from both amateur and professional photographers in 11 different categories. The competition fields submissions from every corner of the globe and publishes the winners in an Annual Book.
Samuel has been submitting photographs to the organisation for a few years, receiving a few honourable mentions and a 3rd place. My preferred categories to submit to the IPA are ‘Night Photography’ and ‘Industrial Architecture.’ Samuel focuses on the darker, rougher elements of our cities as they can become abstract and beautiful when taken by their contrast and shape.
"When I am walking at night through the city, my heart rate increases and adrenaline itches my hands as I look into countless dark corners and silent alleys. In these places, I find scenes that strike me as beautiful, and so I take their photo and submit them to the IPA. My younger self would be surprised by my interest in ‘Night’ and ‘Industrial’ photography due to my enduring fear of the dark and dislike for rapid, reckless industrialisation."
