ABOUT

Samuel Ethan Jolly is a Mancunian author who grew up amongst the city’s steel, concrete and pollution. He also spends time in the Anglo-Scottish borders on the muirs and in the valleys. He began writing in his childhood, exploring science-fiction and fantasy. Alongside this he began as an avid player of video games and board games.

In adulthood he began studying history, gaining both a BA and MA in history whilst intersecting

history with game studies.  His work as a historian, visiting the ruins of historical sites and studying their forms, often inspires his writing of gothic historical fiction with strong focus on sense of place.  The fiction he writes aims to personifies the vestiges of bygone ages like living, breathing in a heritage that lives beyond the ruins they often are.  His interest in games has led to the creation of several proto-types and game concepts all focused on representing history. Samuel’s experience all compounds to create his various outputs: poetry, fiction, academic pieces, games and photography. He has previously worked as a slush reader, and published articles for the aAh! Magazine. His photographs have been given awards by the International Photography Awards.
